Deception Point: A Book Review
The distinct mark Dan Brown has that can’t be found in his contemporaries is his magic of making his fictional story sounds like reality. We can observe this in his controversial book “The Da Vinci Code” which brought up a lot of debates and urged the Church to make some intervention to erase the stains of its reputation as caused by Brown’s story. Many Catholic readers even had a shaky faith when they read the book. They started asking questions on their faith. Of course, we know that Priory of Sion was a hoax. We all know that Brown’s story was anything but real; however, somehow in the minds of the readers, it was considered the truth.
This book, the Deception Point, unlike the previous two “The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons” that delve into the Church, Brown sidestepped and attacked one of the biggest organizations in the US that is tagged with biggest controversies as well, the NASA.
The plot of the story was carefully planned so that the series of events come with great thrill and surprise. In this book, Brown successfully concealed the ultimate truth that the readers want to find out. This book that involves many varied and interesting characters will give you ultimate satisfaction and will give you your time, effort, and money’s worth.
Let me give you some reasons the important things you must consider in reading this book. First, Brown has already gone beyond public approval in terms of skill in writing, creativity, and resourcefulness. It is guaranteed beyond reasonable doubt that you’ll find this book a masterpiece. Second, the trend nowadays is about technology. Technology has been rapidly growing all over the world. We collect what are the latest gadgets and follow latest fads in technology. If you’re one of the techies, read this book, and you’ll find out the latest weaponry that the US government is using and that would make you say “OMG, I never thought these things actually exist.” Or maybe you’ll say “Cool, I wish I can touch, use, or ride one of that stuff." This is one thing that Brown featured in this book. Have you ever heard of a weapon that has unlimited ammunition? It uses the available resources as ammunition, say, snow. It will compress the snow to make a rock-hard snowball and crack all the bones of the target when hit. Alternatively, water if war is going on in an ocean, or sand if in the desert. Isn’t it cool? Third, you’ll get to fall in love with the characters. Every character is distinct to one another. The ambitious, the righteous, the patriot, the nosy, the nagger, the cool guy, the hypocrite, the brave, the innocent, the victim, the selfish, the politician, and all have a role to play in the story. These characters will give you the touch of reality because they feel and react just like ordinary people do. They get scared, helpless, and the adrenaline rush. You can easily put your toe in their shoe and be part of the mystifying adventure and danger they are in.
I don’t know whether Brown is basing on something real, especially the latest gadgets, but he sure has a wild imagination to come up with such a breathtaking suspense-filled story.
Just to give you a glimpse of the book. The story begins with a man on a sleigh pulled by his dogs near the Arctic. He heard a whirring sound approaching to his location. A helicopter emerged from the mist of snow. Two men went out from the chopper and pointed a gun at him. They coerced him to utter some code on the radio. After a while, he found himself inside the chopper with his dogs. His dogs kept on barking. When the helicopter gained high altitude, one man threw out his dogs from the chopper. The barking faded every second. The next thing that he knew he was out from the chopper, falling, gaining speeds in every second. He landed on an ice ground, and eventually, he was buried with snows.
